Theatre at Grenfell
Theatre
The Theatre Program at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College is a four year BFA (Theatre) program in either Acting or Stagecraft.

The program is intended to deliver an all-around education in the theatre that will allow our students to either enter the profession, pursue graduate level studies, or another degree.

It is very much the philosophy of the program that our students develop an "educated imagination". To that end, our students participate in Studio lab courses, Masterclasses and (starting in second year) at least two mainstage productions a year. In addition, all of our students are required to take a healthy selection of lecture and seminar courses, with an emphasis on Dramatic Literature. It is, to say the least, a busy program.

We believe, though, that the rewards are evident:  Our graduates have leading roles in Gemini-nominated television shows, perform at the Shaw and Stratford festivals and with professional Newfoundland theatre companies such as Rising Tide and Theatre Newfoundland Labrador. They also build props on Walt Disney cruise ships, work backstage in London’s West End and pursue successful careers such as teachers, entrepreneurs and lawyers.

Testimonial
When Beth Bartle decided to travel half-way across the country to attend Grenfell’s theatre program (stagecraft), she knew that she was embarking on an adventure. What she didn’t know was that she would come into contact with working professionals who genuinely care about educating the next generation of theatre professionals. “Not only have I been given the tools and practical skills to pursue a career in the theatre,” the Cambridge, Ont. native said, “but I’ve gained exposure to invaluable contacts and resources which are as important as the degree which now serves as my foundation.”
