How much does residence cost?
Currently we have two different styles of residence. The fees for each of these styles can be found on the fees web page. This fee includes telephone and Internet services in each student’s bedroom.
Is there a meal plan?
No. Grenfell does not offer a meal plan but instead encourages students to cook for themselves and in-groups within residence. There are full kitchen facilities available on each floor in the residence and every unit has a fridge and storage cupboard for your groceries. In each of the apartments there is a complete kitchen which is shared between you and three roommates. There is also a food court in the Student Center that has food vendors for days you don’t feel like cooking.
My friend and I want to be roommates. Is this possible?
There is a section on the housing application which asks if you have a roommate preference. You should indicate your friend(s) name and your friend(s) should indicate yours. If you apply before March 1st of each year, you will likely be placed in the same unit or apartment.
Are phones provided in rooms?
Each student in the residence and the Chalet apartments has their own phone with voice mail service in each of their bedrooms.
May I bring my computer? What about internet access?
Yes, you may bring your computer into residence/Chalet apts. and there is unlimited Internet access in each of the student’s bedroom (Computers must have an Ethernet cord which can be purchased at the campus bookstore).
Is there cable television in residence?
Yes. Each floor of the residence has a lounge with a 27" TV and full cable service. Each Chalet apartment is wired for cable but it is the responsibility of the students to contact the local cable company for cable services. Cable costs are the responsibility of the students that decide to have this service, and are not included in the semester cost of the apartment.
Are there laundry facilities available?
Grenfell provides laundry facilities to students living on campus. There is a laundry facility available in the residence and there is one laundry facility for each Chalet apartment site (there are two sites in total). Coin operated washers and dryers are located within the facilities.
Will I be able to study in residence/Chalet apts.? Will it be too noisy?
While it goes without saying that community living takes a little getting use to, we are proud at Grenfell to say that our residence/Chalets provide a very good environment for academic pursuits. A quiet floor in residence, quiet hours and other guidelines in the residence/Chalet apts encourage respect between residents, backed up by our live-in residence life staff, ensure that plenty of time is available for study, sleep, and other quiet pursuits.
Are pets allowed in residence/Chalet apts?
No pets are allowed in residence/Chalet apts. This includes cats, dogs, rodents, birds, reptiles, fish or other animals.
Can I smoke in my room?
No. The residence halls and apartment buildings are completely smoke-free environments. Students who choose to smoke must smoke outside and dispose of their cigarette butts appropriately.
May I bring my own furniture?
Residence units and chalet apartments are fully furnished and leave little space for additions. However, small pieces may be added with the approval of the Student Housing Office.
What will my mailing address be?
Each student is assigned a mailbox and mail is delivered daily:

How big are the rooms?
The residence rooms are approximately 13' x 8', and the apartment rooms are 13'2" x 8'4". The living area in the apartments is 31.7 square feet. You can view the floor plans for the residence and the apartments by clicking on the floor plan links on the housing website.
How big are the beds?
The residence beds are 29'x 75' and the apartment beds are 39 inch regular single beds.
Is bedding required?
Yes you are required to bring your own bedding.
When can we move in?
The move in dates for the Fall 2011 semester are as follows: 1st year students; Sunday, September 4th. Returning students; Monday, September 5th. Classes start on Wednesday September 7th.
