Investigating the interaction between biogeochemistry, and ecology, biology, hydrology, soil properties in boreal peatland and forest ecosystems, to promote environmental sustainability and sound management of our valued natural resources.
Our general research interests are environmental modeling, terrestrial and aquatic biogeochemical cycling, ecosystem ecology, climatic and environmental change, spatial hydrology and geographic information science. More specifically, our research focuses on how climate change and human perturbation affect the hydrological and biogeochemical processes (especially carbon and nitrogen cycling) of natural boreal ecosystems. We examine these outstanding issues through field measurements, observation and manipulative experiments, and ecohydrological and biogeochemical modelling.
Our fundamental aims are to provide a framework, through the solid scientific knowledge gained from our research activities, for identifying applied techniques for maintaining ecological resilience, ecosystem restoration and sustainable utilization of natural resources under various management, land-use options and climate change scenarios.
