Community Involvement
|
Faculty members who wish to become intimately involved with the groups and organizations within the west coast community will have no trouble finding such pursuits. Volunteer opportunities exist within community boards/groups and social and sporting organizations like the Corner Brook Winter Carnival and the Corner Brook Triathlon are always looking for new members. Faculty members are often called upon by the community to share their expertise through lectures and involvement with groups such as the local health ethics committee at the regional hospital.
There are an endless number of activities in which you can participate, whatever the season: indoor and outdoor swimming, downhill and cross-country skiing, golfing snowmobiling, sailing, bowling, weight training, squash, softball, baseball, hockey, soccer, mini-golf, tennis and basketball, just to name a few. Clubs and societies in the city include the Lions Club, Rotary International, the Shriners, the Canadian Progress Club, Toastmasters, the Echo Club (for seniors), Girl Guides and Boy Scouts, the Western Whales Swimming Club and the Silver Blades figure skating club.
