Monaghan Hall Residence, which is physically connected to Western Memorial Regional Hospital, provides single accommodations to students. The residence is the responsibility of the Manager for Residential Services at Western Health (phone 637-5235).

Grenfell Campus Residence provides accommodations (double rooms or apartments style) to students enrolled at Western Regional School of Nursing. Further information is available through student housing (phone 637-6266). Students may also choose to stay in residence on the Grenfell campus.

Applications and Departures
Apply for Residence
Students interested in residence accommodations are required to apply upon being notified of acceptance into the school.
One month prior to departure students are required to complete and submit to Residential Services a "Notice of Moving Out" form obtained from Residential Services. All residence fees must be paid in full prior to departure. All keys (including microlock security card) are to be returned to Residential Services upon departure. Check out time is 11:00 a.m. A key return box is located outside the office as well as in the front entrance of Monaghan Hall. Residents are also required to clean their rooms before they depart.
Residents are informed of the applicable residence fees prior to occupancy. Residence fees are collected from residents at the beginning of each term (4 month period). Payment is to be made at Residential Services on First Floor, Room 102. Overdue or unpaid accounts are referred to an authorized collection agency except where an alternative payment schedule has been negotiated with the Director of Residential Services.
Monaghan Hall serves primarily as a student residence for the Western Regional School of Nursing students. Limited accommodation is also provided to students attending other educational facilities in Corner Brook subject to application requirements and availability of rooms. Temporary accommodation is also provided from time to time to students from various health disciplines, as well as professional or medical staff. In addition to the residence facility, the building houses the nursing school with general administration offices on the first floor and nursing instructor’s offices on third floor. Monaghan Hall residence rooms are located on 2nd and 4th floors.

All exit doors are locked after 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and 24 hours on weekends. The building is only accessible using a microlock card (security card), via the main entrance and connecting corridor to the hospital. In the event you lose the card, it should be reported to Residential Services immediately to prevent unauthorized access to the building. Replacement cards are available at a cost of $10 each.
The security of Monaghan Hall and its residents is maintained by hospital security who make regular rounds of the building. Security cameras monitor the main entrance to the building as well as the tunnel linked to the hospital. The security office is located on the lower level of the hospital, telephone extension 5444.
The procedure for fire evacuation is posted on the back of each student room door. All persons are required to immediately leave the building upon hearing the fire alarm. Please read the Fire Manual located in your room and note the nearest fire exit.
Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout Monaghan Hall and the hospital complex. Smoking is also prohibited inside the blue lines painted on the pavement at the front entrance of the building.
Monaghan Hall has a NO FLAME policy. No candles incense or anything else emitting an open flame are permitted in the building. Any person found burning candles, incense, etc. in their room will be subject to disciplinary action and possible dismissal from Monaghan Hall.
Pets of any kind (fish, birds, turtles, etc.) are not permitted in Monaghan Hall.
Visitors are permitted in residence until 11:30 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and on Friday and Saturday nights until 12:30 a.m. Residents are responsible for their guest and their behavior while they are in the building. Overnight guests (1 per resident) are permitted ONLY on Friday and Saturday nights provided the guest has been registered with the Resident Assistant no later than Thursday at 4:00 p.m. Guests must be accompanied by the resident at all times.
A kitchenette is located on each floor for students who wish to prepare a meal. Residents are responsible for washing their own dishes and cleaning up after themselves. Students are permitted to have a “bar” fridge in their room (maximum height is 4 feet). Students are required to provide their own dishes, cutlery, cookware and linens. Items such as kettles, toasters, electric frying pans, toaster ovens, popcorn poppers, microwaves, portable heaters and other heat emitting appliances are strictly prohibited in residence. Cooking in the residence rooms is not allowed.
A postal box is assigned to those residents whose period of accommodation at Monaghan Hall consists of more than a few days. Mail is delivered each morning Monday to Friday by Mail Room personnel to the postal boxes located directly across from the elevator on first floor, Monaghan Hall. A fully equipped laundry room is located in the basement of Monaghan Hall. Washers and dryers are token and coin operated. Tokens are available at Residential Services Office and cost $1.00.
Cleaning of Rooms
All rooms are cleaned prior to occupancy. Following occupancy, residents are responsible for cleaning their own rooms and maintaining a socially acceptable standard. Prior to departure, residents are expected to clean their room (including the floor) and remove all garbage from their room. Upon departure, the room must be in the same condition as it was upon registration.
Garbage is collected every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning by our Housekeeping personnel. Garbage must be secured in a plastic bag and placed outside the residence room door between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. for pick up. Housekeeping will issue a replacement garbage bag to residents at that time. Under no circumstances is garbage allowed to be left in the corridors other than the assigned times. A box is available in the kitchen on each floor for safe disposal of glass or sharp items. Students are responsible to provide a small garbage container for their room.
