Health Promotion Cookbook

In Honor of Dr. Barry May

Health Promotion CookbookFaculty at Western Regional School of Nursing provide services at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College (SWGC) Wellness Center on an in-kind bases. One year ago they launched a Health promotion Cookbook in honor of Dr. Barry May. The development of this book was supported by the Western Regional Wellness Coalition and Memorial University. The cookbook provides quick, easy recipes for students. In addition the book contains information on sexual health, physical health, alcohol and drugs, smoking cessation, nutrition and a variety of other services offered through the Wellness Center. A copy of the cookbook was presented to Judy May (wife of Dr. May) and her two sons. The cookbooks are not for sale. To date they have been used as give-a-ways for health promotion initiatives. Over the summer one hundred cookbooks were produced and in September they were distributed to the Chalets and Residences at SWGC. This project was co-funded between SWGC Student Services and the Wellness Center (Janice Galliott, Wellness Educator), Student Housing (Jennifer Mitchell, Residence Life Officer) and Western Regional School of Nursing (Linda Norman Robbins, Director). According to Jennifer “students are loving the final product”.
