Please be advised that there will be a power outage tomorrow Tuesday, Feb 4, 2014 for the Fine Art Building during the period noted above.

Areas to be affected include the elevator, gallery, and paint shop. Receptacles and lights throughout the 1st and 2nd floors will be affected as well.

Please be advised that Eco Contracting will be working on the fire alarm system in the Art and Science Building on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 between the hours of 5:30 pm -7:00 pm to complete the tie-in of the fire alarm signaling circuits for the Administration & Finance area.

To verify the system once completed a TEST of the Fire Alarm System is scheduled to take place at 6:50 pm in the Arts & Science Building ONLY.

This is a TEST of the system only; occupants do not have to evacuate the building.

Please be advised that the hot water system is shut down in the Arts & Science Building until 12:00pm today Monday, March 24th , 2014.

This shutdown is necessary to facilitate repairs to the hot water piping system.

The cold water system will not be affected by this shutdown. All washrooms and lounges areas will remain open.

Please be advised that there will be a short power outage on Monday April 14th, 2014 after 5:00 PM which could affect offices located in the Bursars Office, Registrar’s office, CEP, Marketing and Communications, and Community Ed within the Arts & Science Building.

This work is necessary to complete Circuit Breaker Checks.

The Health and Safety office would like to advise the occupants of the Arts & Science building that asbestos abatement in Student Residence Lounges 123, 232, 323 (East Wing - Bennett Wing) is scheduled to be completed Monday, June 2nd from 7am-7pm only. This work will be done in accordance with the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and the Memorial University Asbestos Management and Abatement Policy. Only competent and certified personnel will be permitted to enter or work in the designated area.

The work area will be isolated by physical barriers, and warning signs will be posted to identify the work area. Shut down or modification, as necessary, of the heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC) system as well as other controls will ensure other spaces of the building remain free of contamination. Air monitoring will be conducted throughout the course of the abatement process to ensure no harm to occupants or to the removal specialists. Clearance air monitoring will be conducted prior to re-occupancy of the abatement area. Final monitoring results will be available from the Health and Safety office at the completion of the project.

The Health and Safety office asks all occupants to observe the following precautions: do not disturb the work site or material; respect and observe signage and the contractor’s work area; and report any possible infractions to the Health and Safety office at 639-4314 or after hours to Campus Enforcement and Patrol (CEP) at 637-6210.

Please be advised that there will be a shutdown of the 120V power system in sections of the Arts & Science Building Thursday, August 14, 2014 beginning at 6:00 pm on the East Side( Crossroads to Community Education excluding Room 204 and CEP Office) of the Arts & Science Building Level 2. These outages will also include the pool gym corridor and bookstore area.

Please note it is recommended that all electronic equipment and computers be turned off prior to the start of this work to ensure no loss of data.

Please be advised that there will be a Contractor working in the L1 Library entrance to replace the existing flooring with new tile. This work is scheduled to start Today, August 18th, 2014, and will continue until 5:00pm, August 19th, 2014.

Access to the Library will not be permitted at this entrance during this time period. Visitors are asked to use an alternative entrance to the Library.

Please note, in the event of an Emergency, this entrance WILL be available as an Emergency Exit.

Please be advised that there will be a Contractor working in the bookstore, and area just outside the bookstore, to install new plumbing lines. This work is scheduled to start Today, August 19th, 2014, and will continue until 5:00pm, August 20th, 2014. The Bookstore will remain open for the duration of this work. Please adhere to all signage, and exercise caution when in this area.

This work is necessary to allow contractor to remove parking lot lighting. Barricades will be in place to permit contractor access only. Persons who would normally park in these lots are asked to park in P2 (front of Library), P6 (Chalets) or P9 (Residence Complex). Rerouting of both pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be necessary to facilitate this work. Where possible all disruptions to regular traffic flow will be kept to a minimum.

Please be advised that water in the Arts & Science Building (outside Bookstore) will be shut down for the times noted above to facilitate work in these areas.

This water shut will affect domestic water supplies to washrooms, labs and other sinks.

These buildings will remain open, however note that all washrooms in these areas will be closed for the duration of the shut.

Effective 3:00 pm today Thursday, August 21st , 2014, a Precautionary Boil Water Advisory will be in effect until further notice in the Arts & Science Building only.

This boil water advisory is in effect due to the water shutdown necessary to facilitate work in the Campus Bookstore area.

You will be advised when the boil water advisory has been lifted.

Please be advised that following the removal of existing parking area lighting, there will be a period of approx. 5 days (until August 27th) in which there will be no lighting in these areas. New equipment is scheduled for installation to upgrade the lighting in these areas, but will result in a temporary period of disruption. During this time, it is advised that anyone required to park their vehicle or use these parking areas to use caution as they will be very dim during the evening/night time. Pedestrians are also requested to note that sidewalks/roads in these will be affected and caution is advised.

AS 3012
AS 3032, 3033, 3034 & 3035

This outage will not affect area lighting in corridors, labs, offices, etc.; however all receptacle power will be affected, as well as alarms on emergency shower units and wireless access points.

Please note it is recommended that all electronic equipment and computers be turned off prior to the start of this work to ensure no loss of data.
