Please be advised that the elevator in Arts & Science Building ( Levels 1 to 3) and Residence Complex ( Levels 1 to 5) are currently out of service. This is an unscheduled outage. Service contractor has been notified to respond and correct the problem as soon as possible.

Please be advised that there will be a power outage tomorrow Tuesday, Feb 4, 2014 for the Fine Art Building during the period noted above.

Areas to be affected include the elevator, gallery, and paint shop. Receptacles and lights throughout the 1st and 2nd floors will be affected as well.

Please be advised that there will be a power outage today Tuesday, February 18th, 2014 in the Arts & Science Building New Academic Extension during the period noted above. This work is necessary to facilitate upgrades to the electrical system. Please note it is recommended that all electronic equipment and computers be turned off prior to the start of this work. Please be advised that Eco Contracting will be working on the fire alarm system in the Art and Science Building on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 between the hours of 5:30 pm -7:00 pm to complete the tie-in of the fire alarm signaling circuits for the Administration & Finance area.

To verify the system once completed a TEST of the Fire Alarm System is scheduled to take place at 6:50 pm in the Arts & Science Building ONLY.

This is a TEST of the system only; occupants do not have to evacuate the building.

Please be advised that the hot water system is shut down in the Arts & Science Building until 12:00pm today Monday, March 24th , 2014.

This shutdown is necessary to facilitate repairs to the hot water piping system.

The cold water system will not be affected by this shutdown. All washrooms and lounges areas will remain open.

Please be advised that there will be a short power outage on Monday April 14th, 2014 after 5:00 PM which could affect offices located in the Bursars Office, Registrar’s office, CEP, Marketing and Communications, and Community Ed within the Arts & Science Building.

This work is necessary to complete Circuit Breaker Checks.

Please note it is recommended that all electronic equipment and computers be turned off prior to the start of this work to ensure no loss of data.

The Health and Safety office would like to advise the occupants of the Arts & Science building that asbestos abatement in Student Residence Lounges 123, 232, 323 (East Wing - Bennett Wing) is scheduled to be completed Monday, June 2nd from 7am-7pm only. This work will be done in accordance with the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and the Memorial University Asbestos Management and Abatement Policy. Only competent and certified personnel will be permitted to enter or work in the designated area.

The work area will be isolated by physical barriers, and warning signs will be posted to identify the work area. Shut down or modification, as necessary, of the heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC) system as well as other controls will ensure other spaces of the building remain free of contamination. Air monitoring will be conducted throughout the course of the abatement process to ensure no harm to occupants or to the removal specialists. Clearance air monitoring will be conducted prior to re-occupancy of the abatement area. Final monitoring results will be available from the Health and Safety office at the completion of the project.

The Health and Safety office asks all occupants to observe the following precautions: do not disturb the work site or material; respect and observe signage and the contractor’s work area; and report any possible infractions to the Health and Safety office at 639-4314 or after hours to Campus Enforcement and Patrol (CEP) at 637-6210.
