English at Grenfell

The Bachelor of Arts with Major in English gives the student a first-rate education in the discipline of English within the framework of a liberal arts degree program.
Our English major is an integrated programme, incorporating core courses which give students a clear overview of the most important aspects of English literature and a concentration in a more specific area of English studies (Canadian Literature, Dramatic Literature, Modern Literature).

English majors must also complete an 8-course Minor in another subject, and fulfill all requirements of the Sir Wilfred Grenfell College Core Programme.

Students may also complete a Minor in English to fulfill the requirements of the Sir Wilfred Grenfell College Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees.

Daniel Pinsent says Grenfell’s English degree helped prepare him for his studies at grad school. Although at first he had some misgivings about attending a smaller college, he found out the opposite was true. “The third and fourth years of my degree at Grenfell featured many classes that were as intimate and challenging as graduate seminar classes,” he said. “The enthusiasm these professors show for the material they teach and the people they educate is infectious. I have been inspired to become an English professor and I can only hope to have such a strong impact on future students as Grenfell professors have had on me.”
