For those already familiar with the application, in can be launched from the start menu. If any faculty is having difficulty with this, please contact me.

Internet Connections in Chalets and Residence
We are now approximately one month into the semester and there are still some students who continue to connect devices (laptops, gaming systems etc) that have not been registered with Computing and Communications to the ethernet port not only in their room but other Chalet and Residence rooms as well causing them to shut down. Continuing to connect these devices to your port and shutting it down affects only you. Connecting to a port in another room and shutting it down affects someone else. This can cause undue stress and frustration especially if you are doing research for term papers over the internet.
Do not connect devices that have not been registered with Computing and Communications to the ethernet ports.
By now everyone should be aware of these regulations and port shutdowns should have decreased to a bare minimum or not at all. Click on the link to see more information on the Computing Acceptable Use Policy .
If you have a device and don't know how to find the MAC address of it, click on the instructions .

Safe Off-Campus Access to Files and Software
In response to the recent concerns over computer privacy, access to information, etc, C&C is providing faculty and staff with the ability to access your local computer and files Securely while off Campus. This will alleviate the need to take personal information/files etc. off campus, and will also give you remote access to software located on campus. There are a couple ways to do this but initially we will be allowing you to access you office machine remotely. As time and resources permit, we will be setting up virtual workstations for this purpose so you are dependent on your office machine being powered up.
To do this you will need
High Speed Internet Access
Windows XP or VISTA
IP address of your office computer
Security setup on your office computer
If you would like Remote Desktop setup please contact our HelpDesk by phone ext. 2049 or email helpdesk@swgc.mun.ca or the following link http://www.swgc.mun.ca/computing/Pages/helpdesk.aspx .
