Network

SWGCNet

SWGCNET is the computer network that all academic, administrative, and faculty computers at the college run on. It is funded and managed by Computing and Communications at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College.

Anybody who wishes to be connected should contact the Help Desk at 639-2049 or: avdesk@swgc.mun.ca.

RESNET

RESNET is the computer network that is available to all students staying in Residence and its cost is included in the residence fee.

Students must have a network card and a cable to plug in. Network cards and cables, can be purchased at the college bookstore or the student can purchase his/her own. We recommend either a 3COM or an Intel network card, anything else could result in slow network performance or intermittent operation.

When students move into residence, they should be able to plug into the wall jack and get the internet right away. If there are problems, please contact Help Desk at 639-2049 or: avdesk@swgc.mun.ca.

NOTE: The Computing Department is NOT RESPONSIBLE for any non-campus machines. We do not fix, repair or offer support for personally owned computers. We simply offer an internet connection to you the student just as Aliant or Rogers would. It is the responsibility of the student to maintain a virus free computer. Virus infected machines seriously effect the performance of the campus network and internet. P2P Sharing Programs such as Kazaa, and Morpheus, and their alternatives are NOT RECOMMENDED. Any port/connection that is taking up too much bandwidth due to Virus's, or excessive use, may be shut down immediately until resolved between the C&C Department and user.
