1. What is VPN?
The acronym VPN stands for Virtual Private Networking and is available for clients accessing the internet using ADSL or Cable Modem supplied by an off campus Internet Service Provider.
2. Why do I need to install the VPN software?
The VPN software allows ADSL or Cable Modem clients to:
- gain access to files from home that reside on their computer(s) or on their home directory on the SWGC server. Click here to learn how to map a drive to your home directory on the server.
- be able to print documents from home.
3. When should I connect to SWGC via the VPN software?
You should only connect to SWGC via the VPN software when you need to retrieve and/or send files to your computer(s) or home directory on the SWGC server and/or print documents from home. Disconnect once all necessary tasks are completed.
4. Should I have a continuous connection to SWGC via the VPN software?
NO. You should disconnect once you have completed all necessary file transfers between your home computer and the SWGC server. Failing to do so will result in a slower data transfer when browsing the internet via your ADSL or Cable Modem.
