Student Computing Accounts
|
A SWGC computer account is required to access local computing resources including email, voicemail, wireless and personal network storage.
Each fall semester SWGC accounts created the previous school year expire. All returning students must renew their account to keep it activated.
All graduate accounts will be converted to Alumni accounts which do not need to be renewed yearly.
Free email accounts are automatically created when your computer account is created. Your email address will be username@swgc.ca where username is the account assigned to you.
Too many university email accounts? Some official University Correspondence is sent to your MUN email and some to your SWGC email. Why not redirect your MUN account to your SWGC account?
Checking your Email Our email is web based and uses the Microsoft Outlook Web Access interface. You can access your email on campus or off campus by selecting the SWGC Mail tab on the main page www.swgc.ca Redirecting your MUN email to your SWGC email: - Login to my.mun.ca ;
- After your login is successful you may be presented with three options, please click on the my.mun.ca option;
- On the right hand side of the screen (under My Profile), click Redirect Mail (Marine Institute and Sir Wilfred Grenfell College);
- Enter your SWGC username and select @swgc.mun.ca from the drop down;
- You should get a confirmation email. If you do not receive the email within 24hrs login to my.mun.ca and in the redirect box choose did not receive email. A new confirmation email will be sent to you. Once your confirm the redirect, all future @mun.ca emails should be sent to your @swgc.ca email.
Computing Account Tips: - Lock your Computer : If you are logged on to a computer and leave it unattended, someone can change your password and prevent you from accessing the system. Therefore, it is important to 'LOCK' your computer before you leave to retrieve printing.
DO NOT lock the computer if you plan to be away for more than a few minutes. To lock your computer (i.e. if you need to retrieve printing)
- Press CTRL+ ALT + DEL together
- Select Lock Workstation
To unlock your computer
- Press CTRL+ ALT + DEL together
- Supply your password and press ENTER
- Press CTRL+ ALT + DEL together
- Click on Change Password
- Type in your old password and press TAB
- Type in a new password and press TAB
- Re-enter the new password
- Select OK
- A message will appear indicating your password has been changed. Select OK
- At the options window, select Cancel to return to the system
