Introduction to Mindfulness
Many of us spend much of our time focused either in the past or on the future, paying very little attention to what is happening in the present. Mindfulness is a way of paying special attention to our experience at any particular moment. Introduced 20 years ago, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction was developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn. Since then its use has expanded. Research has demonstrated its benefits, and it is used widely among care givers, the medical profession and ordinary people who wish to reduce stress and anxiety in their lives. The aim of this course is to use the concepts of mindfulness to help handle our moods and emotions and take better care of ourselves.
