Generally speaking there are no prerequisites for Philosophy courses as all courses are open to students with the approval of the instructor and the Head of the Division of Arts. Students in good standing at the University and whose academic performance is adequate will generally be granted approval. However, the following should serve as a guideline: Students in their first semester should sign up for only first year courses unless they get permission from philosophy faculty. Students beyond the first semester should be able to do second year philosophy without prerequisites. All students should be able to do third year philosophy if they have completed one philosophy course or are in the third year of their programme. To do any fourth-year philosophy course in your third year or before, you must have completed at least one philosophy course. All students in the fourth year of any programme will generally be admitted to any fourth year course.
