David Freeman (1936-2006), B.A. (Oxon), P.G.C.E. (Leicester), Ph.D. (London); Professor Emeritus.
Dr. David Freeman, Professor Emeritus at the College, passed away on June 23rd, 2006. He will be sadly missed by all his colleagues. David was born in Harpendon, Hertfordshire, in 1936. He received his B.A. from Wadham College, Oxford, in 1958, and completed a graduate certificate in Education at the University of Leicester in 1959. He began his career at Memorial in 1962, and started Ph.D. studies at the University of London during his first sabbatical in 1969. The Ph.D. was awarded in 1979. In 1975, at the time of his promotion to Associate Professor, he came to Corner Brook as the first coordinator of English at what was then known as the Western Regional College (later SWGC). David spent the rest of his career at the College, being promoted to Professor in 1982. He retired in 1996. In 1998, he was named Professor Emeritus. |
