Academic Planning Committee
Terms of Reference:
1. To examine the objectives of Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, to determine the extent to which these objectives are being met and to make recommendations for the future.
2. In its consideration of the extent to which the objectives of the College arebeing met, the Committee shall, among other things, consult with the College Administration about staffing priority decisions that affect the academic life of the College. When the Committee deems this desirable, it may carry out these consultations in conjunction with the Budget Advisory Committee.

Composition: Principal (ex-officio), Librarian (ex-officio), 1 student, 1 Nursing representative, 6 members of College Academic Council (no more than 2 from any single division) – 1 Arts, 1 Science, 1 Social Science, 1 Fine Arts, 2 at large

Academic Studies Committee

Terms of Reference:
1. To discuss and make recommendations to the Academic Council pertaining to (a) established University credit courses and programs, and (b) proposed new credit courses and programs.
2. To discuss and make recommendations to the Academic Council pertaining to established and proposed University regulations.
3. To consider and act upon special cases and appeals of students at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College.

Composition: Principal (ex-officio), College Registrar (ex-officio), Coordinator Student Affairs (ex-officio), 1 student, 6 members of College Academic Council (no more than 3 from any single division) – 1 Arts, 1 Science, 1 Social Science, 1 Fine Arts, 2 at large

Budget Advisory Committee

Terms of Reference:
1. To examine the main elements of the annual budget of the College.
2. To meet with the appropriate administrative officers, before the allocation of funds in the next year’s budget, to make recommendations based on the analysis of previous budget(s) and to discuss priorities and constraints in the upcoming budget.
3. To present to the College Academic Council an analysis of the budget together with its view on important matters to be considered in future budgets.
4. To consider financial aspects connected with long-term planning of the College and to advise the Principal on the financial aspects of such long-term plans and their associated priorities.
5. To consult with the Academic Planning Committee before preparing its recommendations, budget analysis and advice to the Principal.

Library Planning Committee

Terms of Reference:
1. To develop policies and plans for library holding and acquisitions.
2. To review present holdings in different disciplines and to consult with these disciplines.
3. To recommend to Academic Council on priorities for long-term collection development and to record the order of acquisition.
4. To recommend to Academic council future requirements for equipment, long-term technological considerations, etc.
5. To review its mandate and report back to Council regarding any amendments it wishes to recommend.

Composition: Principal (ex-officio), Librarian (ex-officio), 1 student, 4 members of College Academic Council (at large)

Nominating Committee

Composition: 3 members of College Academic Council (no 2 from the same division)

Research Committee

Terms of Reference:
1. The Committee shall advise the Academic Council on issues related to research, which includes College and university-wide research policies.
2. The Committee shall evaluate and make recommendations to the Principal concerning application for funding from the Principal’s Research Fund.
3. The Committee shall also recommend procedures concerning the application for monies from the fund.
4. The Committee shall serve as a liaison with the office of the Associate Vice-Principal (Research).

Composition: Principal (ex-officio), Associate Vice-Principal (Research) (ex-officio), Nursing representative, 4 members of College Academic Council (1 from each division)

Teaching Committee

Terms of Reference:
1. To advise the Principal in matters relating to teaching, teaching development, applications of educational technology and curriculum design.
2. To support the planning of regular events to foster improvements in teaching (such as teaching workshops, panel discussions, etc.).
3. To maintain a liaison with the Office of Instructional Development and MUN, St. John’s in order to facilitate presentations by visiting speakers at SWGC and other collaborative undertakings.

Composition: Principal (ex-officio), 1 student, 3 members of College Academic Council (1 from the School of Nursing, no 2 from the same division)

Composition: Vice-Principal (ex-officio), Director of Administration and Finance (ex-officio), 1 Nursing representative, 1 student, 4 members of College Academic Council (at large); Registrar or delegate (resource person), Director of Community Education and College Relations or delegate (resource person), Librarian or delegate (resource person), Manager of the Physical Plant (resource person), Administrative Assistant to Director of Admin/Finance (recording secretary).

College Computing Committee

Terms of Reference:
1. To advise the administration, through Faculty Council, as to organizational structure and procedures that would enable the College community to make full use of computer technology in teaching and research.
2. To advise Computer Services of the needs of the College community with respect to computer hardware and software.
3. To investigate means op providing seminars, short courses and other appropriate forums to allow SWGC faculty and staff to gain, maintain and/or expand their computer expertise.
